Sifnos, called the island of miracles, today is a quiet, hilly island in the western Cyclades. This island is a combination of superb beaches, interesting inland villages and lovely churches.
Lots of villages of Sifnos are little jewels made of whitewashed cubic houses, narrow stone-paved alleys, snow white chapels and churches, flowered balconies, bright coloured windows and doors and lovely squares shadowed by olive. Visitors will find shining picturesque villages on the sloped of the mountains, close to the sea or proudly standing on the top of a mountainous area. Some of them are: Apollonia, Faros, Kamares, Kastro.
The visitor who will have the chance to visit the beautiful island of Sifnos, will be enchanted by its wonderful golden sandy or white pebble beaches and their glimmering emerald or deep blue waters that can be found in Greece. Some of those beaches propose sun beds and umbrellas rentals while the others are completely deserted and unspoiled. Some of them are: Faros beach, Heronissos, Plati Gialos.
More than 300 churches, chapels and monasteries are located on the island, some of them are so small, that can accommodate only one person at time. The whitewashed chapels with bright blue doors decorate the pastures and rocky hillsides like snowy linen handkerchiefs dropped by a passerby. The most famous of the churches are: Panagia Ouranophora (Temple of Virgin Mary who holds the heaven), the monasteries of Chrysostomus and Theologos the Mute.
As for night life, a lot of fine bars and night clubs of Sifnos are mostly lined the waterfront of Kamares, main port of the island and scattered in the narrow alleys of the capital, Apollonia. They offer a wide range of drinks and Greek and international music until dawn. Romantic, relaxing or lively bars and cocktail bars can also be found in some beach resorts.
